Pinwheel Jam at HOUSTON MARKET!! EEEKK!!!!

Just beyond honored to work with the incredibly talented designer Emily Breclaw, of The Caffinated quilter.  You can purchase the pattern for this original design of hers, Pinwheel Jam, at her Craftsy shop.

The majority of the quilt body is done in Crescents and Swirls and Meandering Boxes that travel in graduating sizes.

The large pinwheels are outlined to separate them further from the rest of the quilt.  The blades are quilted with straight lines to add movement, and the background is quilted in pebbles to add texture/contrast and make the pinwheel blades pop!

Lastly, the outer border done in straight lines nicely frames this amazing quilt.  and why not throw in some pebbles in the corners to tie in those on the large pinwheels and be a little fancy!

Santa Claus is coming to town!!

Goodness, Christmas seems to come faster every year.  Loretta did such a great job putting this sweet quilt top together using a panel, purchased here.  I used a wave mixed with the occasional swirl in the background to create the feel of swirling wind and tried to bring dear Santa to life by adding a bit of texture with quilting.  Notice she chose minky fabric to back this with, SO SNUGGLY!!

Penguin Cheer!

 This precious Penguin Cheer quilt was such fun to work on.  This little lovely was made by Monika.  What an incredible job she did.  Here is the before shot.

Quilt Among Friends - Arlington, Texas

If you are local, you simply MUST check out this quilt shop in Arlington.  Quilt Among Friends is such a sweet shop with a wide variety of yummy fabric!  Not to mention, there are some incredible ladies working there to help with your every need. 

Here is a shop sample I quilted up for them.  I can imagine endless color choices that would make for a stunning quilt each time.

 

I'm not sure if a quilt can "look good walking away," but I think this one does!  Ha ha!

Ellis County Quilt Show - Midlothian, Texas

I have discovered the secret for actually completing a quilt for myself...enter it in a show!  Turns out a hard commitment is the only thing that will prevent me from putting other quilts in front of mine, indefinitely (yikes!).  I enter shows for fun, not for ribbons.  Sure was a pleasant surprise to get one though!!  Here are my two entries.  My scrappy Lone Star did not place, but sure did look pretty hanging up completed!

I was playing around with a tumbler shape and thought, "Hey, that looks like a lava lamp!"

So here is what I came up with, "Lava Love."  The light gray is quilted with Meandering Boxes, Custom Line Work in the dark gray, and some lava bubbles in the lamps.  I was, as you can tell by my ridiculous face in the photo, just a LITTLE excited to find a 3rd place ribbon on my baby!

And another bonus, one of the quilts I quilted won 1st place!  Way to go, Janet!!  It was an honor to have quilted it for you.

Having trouble completing a project?  Enter a show!  I'm not going to pretend I didn't finish stitching up one of my quilts in the parking lot of the convention center before I took it in, procrastination at its finest!  Find a show and get quilting.  Have fun!!

Stitch Magazine!!

What an honor to be asked by the incredibly talented Emily Breclaw, of The Caffinated Quilter, to quilt this little lovely.  She is an expert piecer that has never met a y-seam she couldn't conquer with ease.  Fabulous design, don't ya think?!?  Although I do try my best, you can find actual professional photos of her masterpiece in the most recent issue of Stitch Magazine, The Unofficial Downton Abbey issue.

I used a very traditional stipple over most of the quilt.  To give the diamonds movement, I quilted concentric circles and filled the hexagon with pebbles to add a spicy texture.  Such a fun quilt to work on!  The challenge was keeping my feet on the ground while quilting it knowing it was going to be my first published work!

Now I've got to get my happy little self to the news stand and pick up a copy of Stitch!
